APC 3D Modelling Using Laser Scanning

In September 2020, EPROM was awarded a ‘3D Modelling using laser scanning’ project by Alexandria Petroleum Company (APC), which required providing an intelligent 3D Model for the plant and all its utilities, updating P&IDS and PFDS, Isometric Drawings in addition to an Electronic Technical Library of all the previously mentioned areas. The project was aligned with EGPC’s most recent vision, which was the digitalization of the entire Oil & Gas Sector. All in efforts to ensure proper asset management and maintain asset integrity. EPROM’s outstanding performance for the project made it within Project Time, Cost while ensuring optimum Quality of deliverables.

Project breakdown: Distillation Area, Lube Oil Area, Supporting Units & Utilities for Lube Oil Area, Lube Oil Storage Tanks area, Distillation Storage Tanks area, Spent Oil and Asphalt Area, Flare Area, Harbor Area, Outside Tank Farm and pipelines.

Projects Deliverables: Plant 2D Layout, Intelligent 3D Model, Update the existing P&ID with plant real-status, 3D Model Navisworks representation, 360 HD Images, Isometric Drawings / BOM, providing Scanned Documents, as well as APC Training. The project covered an area of 945,000 m2, more than 11 process units, about ten different disciplines, in a total duration of 40 months, 22,000 + laser scanning points, 1200+ P&IDs, and 750,000 Safe Man-hours.

The Project realized the vision of Ministry of Oil and Mineral resources and Egyptian General Petroleum Cooperation (EGPC) of the digitalization and modernization of Oil and gas Sector. A SMART 3D model for oil refinery plants has proven to be invaluable as it improves its efficiency, sustainability, safety, accuracy, quality and reduces overall cost of future projects.
